ATHENS TUTORS is run by Carlos and Mariela Arzabe, a couple with more than 15 years combined experience as educators and youth counselors. In 1998 and 1999, they lived in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine where they worked as youth ministers to Ukrainian college students and young people. They have lived in Georgia since 2000 and have worked together as counselors and mentors to students at UGA, Georgia Tech, Emory, and Georgia State.
Carlos Arzabe graduated from Wright State University with a bachelor's degree in Education. He is certified to teach Spanish and Biology in the state of Georgia. Before becoming the Director of Athens Tutors, Carlos was a Spanish teacher at Lakeside High School in Atlanta and the Associate Director of Atlanta Tutors. In addition to running Athens Tutors, Carlos is pursuing a Master's Degree in Spanish Linguistics at UGA.
Mariela Arzabe attended Central Connecticut State University and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Special Education and a minor in Speech Language Pathology. Mariela's teaching portfolio includes experience with special needs students, early childhood education, and language instruction. She is fluent in both Spanish and Russian.
